The Park and Recreation Maintenance Management School (PRMMS) is a comprehensive two-year professional development program designed to teach park and recreation professionals how to develop and manage a wide variety of maintenance programs.
Together, the Park and Recreation Maintenance Management School (PRMMS) Board of Regents (BOR), Oglebay National Training Center, North Carolina State University, and the National Recreation and Park Association provide the highest possible level of practical and academic courses. The PRMMS Board of Regents is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in becoming a Regent leading up to the January 2027 school.
Regent Responsibilities:
- Serve as class instructors
- Prepare all applicable learning materials and instruct courses during the school
- Make recommendations in the development of the school curriculum and activities
- Recruit potential students and promote the school to professional colleagues and organizations
- Participate in selection process of new Regents
Qualifications:
- Are actively employed (or recently retired as) as a full-time park and recreation professional whose qualifications and experience will bring valuable contributions to the BOR. NOTE: Consultants are not eligible for membership on the Board of Regents. However, they are eligible for instructional roles.
- Current professional member of NRPA or agree to join NRPA prior to the spring meeting of the BOR
- Have demonstrated professional qualifications and experience in the field of maintenance management, recreation or related fields
- Have demonstrated proven abilities and experience in public speaking and/or teaching
Commitment:
- Attend the five-day school in Wheeling, WV in January/February (in-person) of each year starting in 2027, including daily meetings for Board of Regents and school partners
- Attend the two-day mid-year planning meeting (in-person) each spring to plan for the following year’s school
- Serve on various committees of the board (typically virtual meetings) and perform other duties as assigned
- Term is three years -- can be renewed
Service as a PRMMS Regent may be submitted for Professional Service Experience (PSE) points which can assist in renewal of CPRP or CPRE certifications.
Expenses Covered:
Serving as a Board of Regent is considered a volunteer opportunity and no compensation is provided for work as part of the Board or instructing at the School. However, Regents are reimbursed for most expenses related to on-site participation at the School and other required meetings.
- Regents will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses to the school and the mid-year planning meeting.
- Regent’s cost for accommodations and meals at the school will be covered.
- Regent’s costs for accommodations during the mid-year planning meeting will be covered. Depending on the host site for the mid-year meeting, some meals will be covered.

All applications are evaluated by the current Board of Regents and its partner organizations to determine possible fit with upcoming Board vacancies and curriculum needs. New Regent terms begin at the mid-year planning meeting in the spring to prepare for the upcoming year. All applicants are notified of their application status by February 15, 2026.
