The NRPA Conference Program Committee works hard each year in recruiting, reviewing, and selecting the education sessions for the annual conference. This committee is known for its hard work and the friendships that develop through participation, and afford professional and personal enrichment for everyone involved.

If you are interested in being a part of this committee, please submit the application on the following pages. Applications to serve on the 2017 Conference Program Committee are now being accepted for the specific topic area of Tourism/Special Events Management.

To be considered for the committee, applications must be submitted by Friday, July 21st, 2017.

Duties and Responsibilities Overview 
 
The information below provides a brief overview of the committee members’ duties and responsibilities while serving on the committee.
  1. Primary Responsibilities:
    • Represent topical area or at-large membership
    • Inform appropriate network(s) how to submit session proposals.
    • Assist appropriate network(s) in finding/creating session proposals.
    • Review and uphold quality standards for selecting proposals.
  2. Secondary Responsibilities:
    • Represent the NRPA membership as a whole. This includes professionals, citizens, educators, students, vendors, and other interested parties.
    • Provide feedback and experience regarding speakers, topics, trends, and other nuances of program selection.
    • Participate in the process of reviewing, rating, and selecting education sessions for the program.
    • Follow up with speakers (as assigned) to assess preparedness and work with the speakers to achieve the best result.
  3. Program Committee Member Deliverables:
    • Solicit a minimum of five session proposals by the proposal submission deadline.
    • Rate all program proposals by the deadline.
    • Attend the Fall and Winter Meetings to represent topical areas or at-large membership.
    • During conference, members will visit each assigned session 15 minutes before the presentation to ensure speaker arrival and start of session.
As compensation for serving on the committee, members receive a complimentary full registration package for the annual conference. Members must meet certain performance criteria in order to qualify for this benefit.


Requirements

  1. Must be a current member of NRPA.
  2. Must be able to commit the time to serve on the committee for the extent of the term selected for, which is a three year initial term unless otherwise noted.
  3. Must be able to commit to attending the two planning meetings, the Fall Meeting during the annual conference and the Winter Meeting in January.*

*NOTE: Travel expenses to these two meetings are not provided by NRPA and need to be covered by the member. 

Timeline

  1. Applications are due by Friday, July 21, 2017
  2. Applications will be reviewed Monday, July 24th through Thursday, July 27th by the Committee Chairs and NRPA staff.
  3. Application decisions will be sent out by Tuesday, August 1, 2017..
  4. The 2017 Conference Program Committee Fall Meeting date and time are tentatively set for Monday, September 25th at 4:00 pm and will be held at the New Orleans Convention Center.
  5. The 2018 Conference Program Committee Winter Meeting will be held in Indianapolis, IN in mid January.  The dates are TBD.
