Together, the Revenue Development & Management School (RDMS) Board of Regents, Oglebay National Training Center, North Carolina State University, and the National Recreation and Park Association provide the highest possible level of practical and academic courses of instruction in the field of revenue management for parks and recreation agencies.  The Board of Regents plays an important role in the quality of the student experience at the school.

  • Serve as class instructors.
  • Prepare all applicable learning materials and instruct courses during the school.
  • Make recommendations in the development of the school curriculum and activities.
  • Recruit potential students and promote the school to professional colleagues and organizations.
  • Participate in selection process of new Regents.
  • Serve on various committees of the board and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Must be working professionally in the field of Parks and Recreation, typically for a park and recreation public or non-profit agency. Consultants currently working the industry are also eligible. Retirees and those who have left the field of parks and recreation can be reappointed, but are not eligible to apply as a new regent.
  • Must be a member of NPRA
  • Must be a CPRP or CPRE

Commitment:
  • In March of each year, travel to Wheeling, WV (typically for 6-7 days) to assist in the instruction of the five-day school and attend daily meetings for Board of Regents and school partners.
  • In late summer (July-August), attend a one-day in-person planning meeting to plan for the following year’s school. Travel to/from the meeting may add additional time.
  • Serve on various committees of the board (typically virtual meetings) and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Term is three years -- can be renewed
Service as a RDMS Regent may be submitted for Professional Service Experience (PSE) points which can assist in renewal of CPRP or CPRE certifications.

Expenses Covered:
Serving as a Board of Regent is considered a volunteer opportunity and no compensation is provided for work as part of the Board or instructing at the School. However, Regents are reimbursed for most expenses related to on-site participation at the School and other required meetings.
  1. Regents will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses to the school and the mid-year planning meeting.
  2. Regent’s cost for accommodations and meals at the school will be covered.
  3. Regent’s costs for accommodations during the mid-year planning meeting will be covered. Depending on the host site for the mid-year meeting, some meals will be covered.

Application Process:
All applications are evaluated by the current Board of Regents and its partner organizations to determine possible fit with upcoming Board vacancies and curriculum needs.  New Regent terms begin at the mid-year planning meeting (typically July or August) to prepare for the upcoming year.

All applicants are updated regarding their application status by March 31. Applications from qualified professionals who were not selected will be included as part of the applicant pool in the following year, if so desired.
